Girl's hat trick doesn't amuse store manager, deputies

DESTIN - A juvenile from Raleigh, N.C., was arrested on charges of petit theft after allegedly trying to steal the security tags off hats at the Maui Nix Surf Shop in the Destin Commons.

Okaloosa County Sheriff's deputies responded to a complaint from the store manager, who alleged the juvenile and her friend had tried on two Playboy Rose hats. The defendant put the hats in her purse, went to the dressing room and removed the security tags, damaging the hats in the process.

She then left the damaged hats in the dressing room, put the security tags in a nearby pair of shorts on display and left.

The manager confronted the two at Starbucks, where they admitted to removing the sensors and damaging the hats. The defendant paid for the damage to the hats. She was read her Miranda rights and subsequently provided a written statement in which she admitted to damaging the sensors with the intent to steal the hats.

The defendant was arrested on charges of retail petit theft.

Should the city have settled with The Oasis?
No. Under no circumstances should a strip club be allowed to open in Destin.
No. I think the city could have negotiated better terms.
Yes. I don't want nude dancing in Destin, but the city can't legally ban strip clubs.
Yes. Bring on the half-naked women!
I don't care. A strip club won't last long in Destin.
