Roy Albert Conner Jr.
Roy Albert Conner Jr., 83, passed away peacefully Aug. 12, 2010, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimers.
He was born in Chicago on May 20, 1927, to the late Theresea Homyak and Roy A. Conner Sr. and resided in Aurora, Ill., after his birth. He married his sweetheart of 47 years, Patsy A. Howe, and resided in Wheaton, Ill. In 1998, they moved to Miramar Beach, Fla. After the sudden death of Patsy in 1998, he later married Marian Ott Conner in 2001 and became a resident of Niceville.
He had retired after 36 years of employment with Argonne National Laboratory in Argonne, Ill. Roy had been a member of the West Towns Barbershop Chorus in Lombard, Ill., and sang in various quartets for 40 years as well as president of the chapter in 1980. After relocating to the area, he joined the Fort Walton Beach Barbershop Chorus for a little more than five years. He began his military service in the Army near the end of World War II and also served in the Korean War. Roy lived his faith with Christ and attended the Niceville United Methodist Church. He loved to sing, dance, golf, bowl and play bridge.
He was the loving father of three daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and Joe Kremel, grandsons Joe and Mike of Willow Springs, Ill., Sandra and Mark Seay, granddaughter Rachel of Niceville, and Wendy and Don Ross of Miramar Beach; step-grandson Scott of West Chicago.He leaves behind a sister, Lois, and brothers, Wallace, Gerry and Ron.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials/donations be made to Alzheimer Family Services, 1901 N. Palafox St., Pensacola, FL 32501, or to Superior Residences of Niceville, 2300 N. Partin Drive, Niceville, FL 32578.
Graveside services and burial will be at a later date.
