Mary Jean Adams Gilmore
Mary Jean Adams Gilmore of Destin, Fla, formerly of Holmes County, Fla., Poplar Head Community, passed from this world to be with the Lord Feb. 25, 2010, with her two sons at her side. She was 73.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Feb. 28 at Poplar Head United Methodist Church in Holmes County with the Rev. Jim Mashburn officiating. Ms. Gilmore will be placed into the church one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at Poplar Head United Methodist Church Saturday, Feb. 27, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Ms. Gilmore was born Jan. 2, 1937, near Andalusia, Ala., as the only child of Hosie O. Adams and Era Mae Scott Adams. At age 5, the family moved to the Poplar Head community in Northwest Holmes County where she grew up. She attended school at New Hope Florida and graduated from Ponce De Leon High School. She worked professionally in banking her entire life, and was active in the Methodist church, having a strong faith in the Lord throughout her life. She dearly loved her family and friends, and had an unyielding spirit for life.
She is survived by her two sons, Duane O. (Cindy) Gilmore, Navarre, Fla. and Robert A. (Sonya) Gilmore, Destin; husband of 27 years, Houston O. Gilmore, Fort Walton Beach; three grandchildren, Matthew O. Gilmore, Nicole M. Gilmore, and Presley K. Gilmore; other extended family and friends.
