Call to artists: Cinco Banderas
Northwest Florida artists are invited to enter the 20th annual Cinco Banderas (Five Flags) Collection Competition, a unique and permanent body of work established through the Arts Council of Northwest Florida and consisting exclusively of regionally produced art.
This annual juried competition is scheduled for Oct. 27-29. Artists may drop off work from 1 to 5 p.m. Oct. 27, 12 to 3 p.m. Oct. 28 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 29. Each applicant may submit up to two pieces of art for one entry fee. Entry fees are $15 for Artel members and $20 for non-members.
While open to all media, due to the nature of the collection, installations and video works are discouraged. Artists must be residents of Northwest Florida.
An opening reception, catered by Varona’s, will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31 at Artel Gallery, 505 South Adams Street. Purchase awards and juror’s awards will be announced at that time.

Auditions: OWC Dance Facets 2009
The Dance program of Northwest Florida State College’s Division of Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts will hold auditions for the college’s annual dance concert, Dance Facets 2009, at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 3 and 4 in the Frances Smith Herron Dance Studio in Room J-125 in the Mattie Kelly Arts Center on the college’s Niceville campus.
Auditions are open to anyone high school age or older. Dancers are required to bring jazz and ballet shoes for the audition. Pointe shoes are mandatory to be considered for a role in any of the pointe pieces. If cast in the show, participants are required to register for a dance technique class in either jazz, ballet, tap or modern and a performance dance course during the spring semester. Class time will be determined by rehearsal schedule.
Dance Facets 2009 will be held at 7:30 p.m. April 24 and 25 on the main stage of the Mattie Kelly Arts Center. Contact Joe Taylor, assistant professor of dance, at 729-6036.
