POLICE BLOTTER: Okaloosa County lawman finds himself on the wrong side of the arrest
The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office arrested an agency Sergeant Thursday night in Destin on a charge of driving under the influence, according to a release from the sheriff's office.
Deputies were called to an area of Highway 98 near 314 Harbor Boulevard shortly before 10 p.m. Feb. 2 in response to a motorcycle crash.
Deputies say citizens reported finding 48-year old Sgt. Ted Cason lying on the ground near the motorcycle. He had blood on his forehead, but despite an apparent head injury, declined medical attention.
He also refused a Field Sobriety Test or alcohol breath test.
According to the report, Cason admitted to EMS personnel that he had "a couple of drinks," and that he was in the possession of a .45 caliber firearm, which he "lost," but was later found in a leather case on his body.
A sergeant on the scene noted that Cason had a moderate smell of alcohol coming from his breath, his eyes appeared watery, and he was unsteady on his feet.
He was charged with driving under the influence and has been suspended without pay pending the results of an internal investigation.
