Three Walton County projects recognized with design awards
DAG DOES IT
Destin-based DAG Architects Inc. took home four awards.
It landed two merit awards for new work for The “V” Restaurant in Seagrove Beach and Sacred Heart on the Gulf Hospital in Port St. Joe.
The firm also grabbed two honorable mention awards for un-built projects: The Bexar Street Redevelopment Investment Center in Dallas and the Rosemary Beach Amphitheater, which also included work from McWhorter Architects.
Three Walton County projects were among the 10 projects that received prestigious Design Awards of Excellence from the Northwest Florida Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, presented on Jan. 19, at the chapter’s annual meeting.
The Design Awards of Excellence recognize excellence in architecture, elevate public consciousness of good design, and recognize those architects whose work enriches our built environment. An impartial panel of architects from Jacksonville judged each project on its aesthetics; satisfaction of program; budget and schedule; uniqueness or originality of solution; conceptualism; sustainability; client satisfaction; and appropriate or novel use of materials.
The Walton County projects include:
Merit Awards for New Work
The “V” Restaurant, Seagrove Beach, by DAG Architects Inc.
The “V” Restaurant is the first built phase of the Hotel Viridian, a boutique-spa hotel that will offer a variety of options for visitors to Seagrove Beach. The restaurant’s modernist aesthetic is reminiscent of Miami Beach art deco architecture, and engages pedestrians in the evening with its lighting from within, the outdoor patio, and reflecting pool.
Alford Residence, WaterColor, by Geoffrey Chick & Associates, Inc.
The design of the Alford Residence in WaterColor took an awkwardly shaped lot and specific neighborhood regulations and created a comfortably-scaled home with curb appeal enhanced by its dual gables. The use of 16” deep floor trusses not only was more economical, but provides interior spaces with no structural interference.
Honorable Mention Award for Un-Built Projects:
Rosemary Beach Amphitheater by DAG Architects Inc. and McWhorter Architects
The Rosemary Beach Amphitheater is planned for St. Augustine Green, and will host a variety of dramatic, musical, and community events when complete. The iconic tower will serve as a beacon, and will be lit in various ways during performances and events.
The AIA NW FL Chapter serves members in Bay, Escambia, Gulf, Holmes, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, Walton, and Washington counties.
