For Snowbirds, the end is near
Remember how Sinatra sang, “And now the end is near and we will face the final curtain, I did what I could do and that is certain”? Yes, this is my final article as publicity director for the Destin Snowbirds.
At the meeting Tuesday the new officers for 2009-2010 were elected: President, Marge Marcella, husband Pat; 1st Vice President, Paul Hewitt, wife Nancy; 2nd Vice President, Bill Pasel, wife Karen; Treasurer, Ken Lemire, wife Evelyn; Secretary , Gail Carson, husband Bob; Publicity, Diane Neeb, husband Steve; and Web site, Gene Holzer, wife Sandy.
Since Sept. 8, 2008, there have been 20 weekly articles about the Snowbirds in The Log and in the Daily News. The organization is very active and has so many different happenings, all of which deserve publicity in the papers. Thanks to The Log and the Daily News for publishing the articles.
Wednesday 8 a.m. will be my final broadcast time on AM1340 with Gerry Melvin. Gerry and I tried to keep the listening area updated on the Snowbirds. It worked, according to Gerry. We kept the ratings up. At the meeting it was mentioned that there were close to 200 vendors that supported the Snowbirds. The Snowbirds greatly benefited from the vendors, all the gifts, early bird dinners, discounts, numerous savings. Thanks to all the Destin merchants.
Entertainment at the Tuesday meeting was provided by Rusty and Jabbo. They always provide plenty of good music. And Rusty had some special lyrics pertaining to the Destin Snowbirds which brought on plenty of laughs.
The activities left include fishing, cards, tennis and casino trips. Storage locker is open from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Call Jim Galea at 651-2077.
Enjoy the time you have left in Destin this winter — the beaches are beautiful.
My wife Rose and I wish all the Emerald Coast people and the Destin Snowbirds a healthy and happy spring, summer and fall. After that we will be together again.
