Destin resident Warren Wilson has received several regional and national scholarships for his hard work throughout high school in both the community and the classroom.
The Fort Walton Beach High School graduate was recently awarded a $2,500 Lowe’s scholarship that he plans to use to further his education at Georgetown University. Lowe’s awarded the scholarships based on students’ academic achievement, leadership and community involvement.
Nearly 42,000 students applied for the scholarship, but only 140 Lowe’s Scholarships were awarded to students across the country. To qualify, students must be high school seniors and planning to attend an accredited two- or four-year college or university.
Wilson, an Eagle Scout, was also awarded one of three $1,000 Student Ethics Scholarship during the BBB Foundation’s Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics luncheon in Pensacola. The scholarship winners or their representatives read their essay on character building during the ceremony. The essay was required as part of the application process for their scholarships.
Among other achievements, Wilson was also recognized as “one of the country’s most outstanding high school seniors by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation.”
He was one of 252 high school students who competed for the 52 national scholarships of $20,000 and 200 regional scholarships of $10,000 during the Coca-Cola Scholars weekend in Atlanta, Ga. in April. He was awarded a $10,000 Regional Coca-Cola Scholarship for college for his “steadfast commitment to educational excellence, leadership and service to the school and community.”
