Pete Million registered as 2,000th Snowbird

As all of us know, our time in Destin is running out. It amazes me to think the migration north will be here before we know it.

This past week was the busiest of our Snowbird schedule. It started out on Saturday with 150 people on the Valentine cruise aboard the Southern Star. Then we had our Soundsations concert on Sunday. The tickets sold raised $8,000 for the college. To all of you who attended, thank you.

Then on to the annual fashion show on Monday. This year’s theme was the Winter Olympics and included a quiz on the Olympics. Lots of competition between the ladies. The fashion part was hosted by Chico's. The models looked wonderful and more than 175 ladies were present to watch the fashion show. Then on Tuesday, the craft show was held at the Roost with many Snowbird crafters presenting their wares to our members.

The two general meetings this week were well attended, with 700-800 Snowbirds present at each meeting. We were entertained by Harmony 2, whose singing and dancing provided an atmosphere that was upbeat, to say the least. What a joy!

Then on Wednesday the ladies' golf tournament was held at Bluewater Bay Golf Course. I'd call this weeks' schedule more like the Snowbirds “grand slam” of events.

Storage locker rental tickets will be on sale Tuesday morning, Feb. 23 between our scheduled general meetings. Rented lockers can be accessed on Saturday, Feb. 27 between 8 and 9:30 a.m. as well as each successive Saturday until March 27 when they will close for the season.

The Blood Pressure Clinic is held every Wednesday from 1 to 3 pm at Destin Emergency Center, 996 Airport Road.

There are still golf times available on designated dates for our members at a number of area golf courses. Please remember, these special rates apply on specific days only. For additional information, call Paul Tomlinson at 650-8432 or Ken Lemire at 269-1317.

The Friendship Club will meet this upcoming week at the Black Pearl Restaurant.

With three weeks remaining of our 2009-10 Snowbird season, we are still looking for a few good men (or ladies) to volunteer for the upcoming season. If any of you are interested, please contact one of our current board members. Their names are listed on our Web site, www.destinsnowbirds.org.

And congratulations to our 2,000th registered member for this season, Pete Million, who is from Quincy, Ill. This is his first year as a Destin Snowbird member.
