Fishermen charged with spearing mullet

Two Freeport residents were arrested in Washington County after Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers watched them put on dive gear and enter the Choctawhatchee River with a spear gun.

The two used the gun to spear mullet.

They were cited for spear fishing in fresh water.

The officer noted that he recognized the boat and one of the subjects because he had arrested him last year for boating under the influence.
