Bay Point Invitational officials call off Billfish Tournament for 2010
Officials have announced the cancellation of the 2010 Bay Point Billfish Invitational scheduled for July 14th – 18th in response to the latest recreational fishing closures for oil-affected areas of the Gulf as designated by the National Marine Fisheries Services.
Event organizers emphasized, however, that all other scheduled activities that week including the Soldier Salute, a fishing excursion honoring our military heroes scheduled for July 15th, The Al Hubbard Kid’s Fishing Experience slated for July 16th and the 40/40 Shoot Out, a one day tournament awarding top Tuna, Wahoo and Dolphin on July 17th, will continue as planned.
“We’re disappointed to have to delay the billfish tournament until 2011, but recognize it’s in the best interest of our sponsors and participants who support the event to hold off this year while the oil crisis is being resolved,” commented Scott Burt, Tournament Director. “We will, however, continue on with all the other great events that are part of the biggest and best summer party in the area. We’re not going to let this situation get us down.”
Billfish Tournament participants who registered will receive a full refund and are offered complimentary dockage at Bay Point Marina that weekend to enjoy the parties and activities.
The 40/40 Shoot Out
The 40/40 Shoot Out is a one day tournament for boats 40 feet or less in length with awards in three main divisions: Tuna, Wahoo and Dolphin. The Kick-Off party will be held Friday night from 6-9pm with food, entertainment and a sponsor village. Weigh-ins will be held from 6-9pm on Saturday evening. All entertainment and spectator events are free and open to the public.
