Underage drinker hides under SUV
A woman in Destin tried to avoid arrest by running from a deputy and crawling under an SUV.
An Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office deputy found three underage
drinkers on the beach in Destin May 13 and while he was talking to
them, the lone female began to walk off.
The deputy wrote in an incident report that he didn’t go to apprehend
her immediately because they had the two men in custody. The deputy
gave one man a notice to appear and ordered him to go and get the
female while he was filling out the notice for the other man.
The man came back and said he couldn’t find the woman and both men denied knowing her full name.
After he released the two men, the deputy followed them at a distance
to their vehicle and across Scenic Highway 98 to the Beach Side Inn.
The men met two women in the parking lot.
The deputy wrote in his report that he approached the group and one of
the women began to rapidly walk away. Then she began to run. The deputy
watched the woman crawl under an SUV, then crawl back out and run away
as he approached.
When the deputy finally apprehended her and placed her under arrest,
the woman confessed to drinking with the group, but said she wasn’t the
woman from the beach. The deputy wrote he wasn’t convinced the woman
was telling the truth, but he had reasonable doubt and gave her a
notice to appear for resisting an officer.
She was released to her father.
