‘This is my Academy Award:' Destin Elementary School teacher lands top honors
It may not be an Oscar, but to one special teacher it’s even better.
Destin Elementary School is proud to have so many excellent and hard working teachers. But this year, the school recognized Ann Shirah, a second grade teacher, who has been selected teacher of the year for Destin Elementary 2010-2011!
She always makes sure to go the extra mile when she teaches.
“I feel very appreciative and honored to think that I am one of the many teachers who deserve this,” Shirah says.
To be chosen as teacher of the year, a teacher must be unique, hands on, and kind, which are the characteristics Shirah has.
“I work hard like all of the other teachers. Seeing smiles on the kids’ faces when they are faced with a difficult subject but then get it is my favorite thing about teaching,” she says, proud of her wonderful class.
Shirah is a strong dedicated teacher. She has been teaching for a little more than 36 years and still can’t get enough of it.
“This is my Academy Award. I feel like I’m walking on the red carpet!”
