Baytowne Pops
Join Maestro Fuller and the Sinfonia Gulf Coast for an evening of light classics, movie soundtracks, familiar tunes and patriotic favorites at 8 p.m. May 3 at The Village of Baytowne Wharf inside the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort. Bring lawn chairs, blankets and purchase picnic items from any of The Village Merchants. Admission is free.
 
Camp Walton Heritage Craft Days
The City of Fort Walton Beach Heritage Park and Cultural Center offers the next installment in their continuing community education program, “Camp Walton Heritage Craft Days,” from 12-3 p.m. May 3 at the Camp Walton Schoolhouse Museum on Miracle Strip Parkway.

Lady Antebellum
Lady Antebellum, a new trio, will perform at 11 a.m. May 3 at the WXBM Country Fest 2008 at the 5 Flags Speedway in Pensacola. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at wxbm.com.

ArtsQuest 20th anniversary
The Cultural Arts Association marks the 20th anniversary of ArtsQuest, which will be held May 4-11. Call 622-5970. Scheduled events include:
•May 4: New Gulf Coast Choir at 3 p.m. at Good News United Methodist Church, 4747 W. U.S. 98 in Santa Rosa Beach. General admission is $15/adults and $10/students, payable by cash or check at the door.
•May 5: Back to Grayton Beach, a sunset toast to 20 years of creativity, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the end of the boardwalk on Grayton Beach. Bring your own libation, but remember that glass is not allowed on the beach. A beach shuttle will pick up from Rivard Realty on DeFuniak Street from 6 to 6:20 p.m.
•May 6: Fashion Show & Luncheon  hosted by the Santa Rosa Golf & Beach Club. Doors open at 11 a.m., admission is $35, and seating is limited. Reservations must be made with Christine at 267-2305 by April 30.
•May 7: Student Art Exhibit at Butler Elementary School, 6694 W. County Road 30A from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Seaside Neighborhood School’s exhibit, 30 Smolian Circle, will take place from 2:30 to 6 p.m.
•May 8: Champagne Shopping Tour from 4 to 8 p.m. along the County Road 30A and 98 Corridors for guests to enjoy original art of all kinds, along with special sales, beverages and hors d’oeuvres. Shuttle parking is in Gulf Place, Seaside and Rosemary Beach.
•May 9: Fine Arts Preview Gala from 5 to 7 p.m. Guests will have an exclusive opportunity to preview and purchase outstanding art and to mingle with more than 100 artists and Festival VIP’s. Marlin Grill will serve hors d’oeuvres and spirits. Admission is $20, and reservations must be made by May 1.

Monet and Seurat Traveling Exhibit
The Mattie Kelly Arts Foundation in conjunction with the City of Destin Library will present a Teacher’s Discovery Traveling Art Exhibit featuring French artists Claude Monet and George-Pierre Seurat through  May 7 at the Destin Library.

Emerald Coast Plein Air Painters
The Emerald Coast Plein Air Painters, an open group of art enthusiasts, gather from 9:30 a.m. to noon May 7 at Clement Taylor Park in Destin to paint. There is no membership fee. Concerts in the Park
The Mattie Kelly Arts Foundation presents its summer concert series at 7 p.m. May  8 on the Event Lawn at the Mattie Kelly Cultural Arts Village, adjacent to Grace Lutheran Church on Commons Drive. ArtsQuest Champagne Shopping Tour
The Merchants of Rosemary Beach, along with several area artists, will showcase their creativity throughout town center during the ArtsQuest Champagne Shopping Tour from 4-8 p.m. May 8.
View creations at Wild Olives Market, Tracery, Shabby Slips, Gigi’s Fabulous Kids’ Fashions & Toys, Pish Posh Patchouli’s, and others.

Fort Walton Beach Community Chorus
The Fort Walton Beach Community Chorus kicks off its 34th season with music, dance and narration from the golden age of the “Iron Horse” at 8 p.m. May 9 at the Fort Walton Beach Municipal Auditorium. ArtsQuest 20th anniversary
The Cultural Arts Association marks the 20th anniversary of ArtsQuest, which will be held May 4-11. Call 622-5970. Scheduled events include:
•May 10-11: ArtsQuest Fine Arts Show, a huge juried fine arts show in The Village of Baytowne Wharf in the Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort. Admission is free, but benefit drawing tickets will be sold throughout the weekend for $5 each (three for $10, ten for $20). Hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Emerald Coast Plein Air Painters

Kid’s Night Out
Paint’n Place in The Village of Baytowne Wharf will entertain children beginning at 6 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays in May and June. The evening includes a pizza dinner, refreshments and materials for painting a 6-inch-by-6-inch tile. Fee is $40/child. Reservations required. Call 850/267-6062.

Call to artists: Alien Language
Alien Language, a juried exhibit, will be held May 20-June 27 at Artel Gallery, 505 South Adams St. in Pensacola.
An opening reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. May 30.
Entry fee (non-refundable) is $25/members and $35/non-members. Work can be dropped off from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 17 and 1 to 4 p.m. May 18.
Artists may submit up to three works for one entry fee. Works must have been executed within the last two years. Works previously shown at Artel may not be resubmitted.
All work must be ready for hanging or presentation and easy to exhibit with clear instructions where necessary.
Artists should come prepared with title, media, framed dimensions and price of each work. Download form at artelgallery.org.
Keep in mind Artel’s mission of providing a venue for experimental or “edgy” art.
Guidance: Symbols (classic, Jungian, or uniquely created), art as communication, work having something to do with language, but not containing actual recognizable text of any human language. The importance is on the conveyance of meaning.

Call to artists: Celebrate Pensacola
Artists can leave their mark on Pensacola’s history by designing the signature poster for the 450th anniversary celebration. Celebrate Pensacola, Inc. will host the poster contest to commemorate Pensacola’s founding in 1559 and reflect the rich history, culture and events that have made Pensacola the fascinating community it is today. The 450th celebration will begin May 23, 2008 and end 450 days later on August 15, 2009.
Amateur and professional artists of any age are invited to submit poster designs representing the 450-year history of Pensacola. The winning artist will receive $1,000. The contest deadline is noon May 19. The winning poster design will be unveiled at the 450th kick-off celebration held at 5 p.m. May 23 on Palafox Place surrounding the fountain at the Escambia County Courthouse.
Entry art must be a minimum of 14 inches by 24 inches and no larger than 24 inches by 36 inches. Any medium is permitted. Artists must submit an original piece. No more than two designs may be submitted per person.
Entries should be delivered to the Pensacola Bay Area Visitors Information Center at the north end of the Pensacola Bay Bridge.

Art exhibit: Mattie Kelly Fine & Performing Arts Center
The Mattie Kelly Fine & Performing Arts Center at Okaloosa-Walton College in Niceville is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and from 1-4 p.m. Sundays. The galleries are closed Friday, Saturday and college holidays. Call 729-6044.

Call to Artists: Destin Seafood Festival
To celebrate its 30th anniversary and return to a harbor-front location, the Destin Seafood Festival is issuing a call to artists for the 2008 Destin Seafood Festival Poster Contest. The theme of this year’s contest is “Back to the Harbor.”
All artwork must be handcrafted by the artist. No computer-generated or enhanced artwork will be accepted. Entries are due to the Chamber office by noon June 6. The winner will be notified by June 24.
The festival, Oct. 3-5 at HarborWalk Village alongside the harbor docks, will feature fresh local seafood, live entertainment, arts and crafts booths, children’s activities, and more.

Drawing workshop
The Cultural Arts Association will offer a drawing workshop taught by Fort Walton artist and art teacher Barbara Fudge from  9 a.m. to noon June 7 at the Cultural Arts Association office, 2282 W. County Road 30A.
The class, appropriate for artists at all levels, will focus on drawing shapes and learning to see art as the relationships of shapes.

Art exhibit: Members’ Juried Exhibition

Art exhibit: “Facing Abstraction: Refiguring the Body in the 20th century”

Call to artists: Destin Festival of the Arts
The 13th annual Destin Festival of the Arts will be presented by the Mattie Kelly Arts Foundation on Oct.25 and 26 at Henderson Beach State Park in Destin awarding over $8,200 in cash prizes. Applications are now being accepted for juried show artists ($30 non-refundable jury fee and $175 booth fee). Poster entries for the signature poster and T-shirt design will be featured on festival promotional materials and merchandise with a $350 cash award.

Rumors
Pensacola Little Theatre presents Neil Simon’s side-splitting farce “Rumors” at 8 p.m. May 9-10 and 16-17 and at 2:30 p.m. May 11 and 18 in the Valerie J. Russenberger Theatre inside the Pensacola Cultural Center, 400 South Jefferson Street.

Memorial Day Celebration at The Market Shops

•The Butler Elementary School Choir will perform patriotic classics at 4:30 p.m. followed by a drill demonstration by the United States Army Cadet Corp of Fort Rucker.
•Not Quite Fab will take the stage on the Cypress Green stage at 6 p.m. Guests can show their colors with this celebration and leave a message and color a picture on the “Monster Mural” American flag tarp that will be set up on the Cypress Green through Memorial Day.

Picnic with the Pops!
“Picnic with Pops,” a free concert featuring the Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra, will be held at 3 p.m. May 25 at the Mullet Festival grounds at Hwy. 85 and College Boulevard in Niceville. Bring chairs, tables, blankets, as well as picnic baskets and coolers.

Yappy Hour
Created for owners and their canines to mix and mingle with new people and their dogs, Tijuana Flats’ Yappy Hour from 6-10 p.m. every Thursday will donate 5 percent of the evening sales to PAWS. One Thursday a month, Tijuana Flats, at 39 Eglin Parkway in Fort Walton Beach, will donate 10 percent of the evening sales to PAWS. Biscuits and water are provided for the dogs.

Northwest Florida Ballet’s Académie Open House & Auditions
The Northwest Florida Ballet Académie will hold auditions at the studio headquarters on May 17 and 18 with “school day previews” being conducted by RSVP on May 7, 8 and 9 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Starlight Film Series

3-D concerts
Rave Motion Pictures, Destin Commons, has brought a new age of concerts to the movie screen with 3-D concerts.
Shine A Light, a Rolling Stones Concert/Documentary directed by Martin Scorsese, opened April 4.

Kidtoons at The Rave
Kidtoons is a year-long program that provides only G-rated movies at The Rave at Destin Commons. Each program includes a movie, cartoon shorts and music videos.
New programs begin on the first Saturday of every month and run for the whole month. Show times will be scheduled for Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday of each week. Full listings will be available at www.destinrave.com, in local newspapers and at the Destin Commons information kiosk.
Each program runs between one hour and ten minutes and one hour and thirty minutes. Tickets are $7.50 per person at the box office and theater kiosk. Tickets can also be purchased at www.movietickets.com. Each child that attends a Kidtoons program receives a free gift.
Schools, day care centers and groups of 50 or more may apply for discounts. Call 650-4539.

Fun Fest
The Navarre Beach Area Chamber of Commerce is inviting artist and craft vendors to participate in the 2008 Fun Fest May 17 and 18. 
Fun Fest celebrates with music and entertainment throughout the entire weekend and a fireworks show, in addition to a children’s area, a variety of food vendors, and more than 50 arts and crafts vendors.
Applications for consideration must be submitted no later than April 15.
Fun Fest will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. May 17 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 18. Call 939-3267.

Wine Tasting

Seaside Jazz Festival — A Journey Through Jazz
The Merchants of Seaside present two weekends of music at the Seaside Jazz Festival: A Journey through Jazz, to be held May 16-18 and 23-26 in the town’s amphitheater.
The festival headliner, The Neville Brothers, will perform May 26 at 6 p.m.
The first festival weekend will feature Latin Grammy winner Nestor Torres, The Rebirth Brass Band, Shamarr Allen, Ted Shumate and Jesse McBride.
The Memorial Day weekend line up will shine with stars such as the Neville Brothers, The Hot 8 Brass Band, Glen David Andrews, Little Freddie King, Dayve Stewart, Marva Wright, and Walter “Wolfman” Washington.

Family Fun Arts Fest
The Okaloosa Arts Alliance is  accepting donations and vendors for the first Family Fun Arts Fest to beheld from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 18 at Henderson Beach State Park. Events will include performances by local art groups, family fun contests, games and art classes. A silent auction and booths with fine arts, crafts and food will also be set up. The Festival and Park are free and open to the public all day, with parking available in the Park. All proceeds benefit the Okaloosa Arts Alliance. Call 499-8335.

Memorial Day Weekend Festivities and Tribute
The Village of Baytowne Wharf at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort will have a slip and slid for children down the Big River  — an inflatable water slide — on May 23 and 24. Also on May 23, the Village welcomes back sand sculptor Mark Flynn and Sand Odyssey as he creates a work of art in the Events Plaza.
Live music will also be heard May 23-26. The annual Memorial Day weekend fireworks extravaganza over the lagoon marks the beginning of summer.
The extended weekend concludes on May 26 with a program to salute Veterans at 2:30 p.m. Call 267-8117.

Summerfest 2008
June 1 through Aug. 17, the Destin Harbor will present Harbor Celebrations on Thursdays, Saturday and Sundays which will showcase the uniqueness of the Destin Harbor. 
Thursday nights will have fireworks and a presentation of a local military hero at HarborWalk Village. 
Saturday nights will feature live music on the Harbor.
Sundays feature Art on the Harbor with local artist displays of watercolors, oil paintings, whimsical signs, abstract art, pottery, fused/wired glass, wood carvings, photography, jewelry and more. Artists will set up beginning at 11 a.m. and the event is free. Mattie Kelly Arts foundation will present an ArtStop tent featuring kid’s art projects.

BamaJam Music & Arts Festival
Enterprise, Ala. will host the inaugural BamaJam Music & Arts Festival June 5-7 at Boy Scout Road and Highway 167.
Presenting 30 award winning acts from country, classic rock, alternative and bluegrass, BamaJam will be host Bama Market, Bama Music Lounge, Bama Media Lounge, BamaJam Sponsors Plaza, Bama-a-Rama Kids Zone and BamaJam Park. World-class artists will perform on the three separate stages. 
Randy Owen,  former member of Alabama, kicks off the festival June 5 with Little Big Town (“Boondocks”) and Darryl Worley (“Have You Forgotten?”).
ZZ-Top performs June 6 and Hank Williams, Jr. and Lynyrd Skynyrd will perform June 7.
Other performers include Miranda Lambert, Ricky Skaggs, Del McCoury, Ralph Stanley, Dan Tyminski and Nanci Griffith.

Ballet @ Baytowne

Wine tasting
