Purple pick-up truck speeds through Destin, driver flees on foot
DESTIN -- The driver of a purple Toyota pickup was arrested Jan. 5, after an Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office deputy caught him speeding and discovered he was driving with a suspended license.
William Christopher Waitzman, a 47-year-old Destin man, was taken into custody at about 1:30 a.m.
The deputy attempted to stop him but Waitzman fled at a high rate of speed, according to his arrest report. He then came to an abrupt stop on Lakeshore Drive by skidding off the road. Waitzman fled on foot, but was caught by a deputy.
A debit card with his name on it was lying on the front seat.
Waitzman told deputies he did not want to say anything until speaking to his lawyer, the report said.
Deputies confirmed that his license had been revoked in May of 2008 for five years due to his habitual traffic offender status. He had been arrested Nov. 7 for driving the same vehicle, the report said.
