There’s a new place to get your thrills in Miramar Beach at Thrills Laser Tag and Arcade.

The 4,200-square-foot arcade opened June 9, and is the perfect place to take the family to cool off in the summer months, or to escape Florida’s torrential downpours.

“We’ve been very well received already,” said owner Todd Whitney. “Everyone loves the laser tag, and, of course, when it rains we’re packed.”

Whitney also owns Blast Arcade in the Village of Baytowne Wharf, and said he hopes Thrills will be more visible and bring more fun to the Destin area.

“We wanted to be out on Highway 98,” he said. “Sandestin has its own little community, but this is somewhat of a different market. Laser tag, while there is one in Destin, we thought we could make it bigger and better.”

Thrills laser tag, Temple of Doom, is two stories and covers an additional 3,700 square feet. Twenty-four players can compete at once, and even the components of the game play a roll in the fun.

“Our laser tag is one of the most interactive and immersive in the country,” said Whitney. “It’s highly themed with 15-foot tall snakes that can get you out, or you can use them to help eliminate other players. It’s a very technically advanced place.”

Whitney added that in the off season, he plans to allow locals to form laser tag leagues and hold laser tag tournaments.

As for the game floor, Whitney said there are about 50 games with more than 70 player stations. Popular games include Ghostbusters, DC Comics, Wizard of Oz, Hoops Basketball and Buck World.

“We also have the largest prize zone on the Emerald Coast,” Whitney added. “And in place of tickets, we have a card, so the tickets go right on the card.”

When asked what age players get the most out of Thrills, Whitney just laughed.

“Really any age because we have games from toddlers on up. There is a 6-year-old minimum for laser tag, but the other day, we had a guy with a cane walking around in there playing.”
