Saturday 9/6

 

Emerald Coast Car Show

The Northwest Florida Model A&T Club, Panhandle Cruisers and the Playground Corvette Club will present the 16th Annual Emerald Coast Car Show on Saturday at Fort Walton Beach High School. More than 300 cars are expected to compete for trophies in 53 classes of vehicles. The show will feature music, an auction, and concessions sold by the ROTC students at Fort Walton Beach High. Registration begins at 8 a.m. Judging takes place 12:30-3 p.m., with awards at 4. Registration is $30. Call Roger Hibbs at 796-0946 or fax the same number. Or, call 934-4113. Coffee House Live

Sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Emerald Coast in Valparaiso, Coffee House Live is being paired for the first time with Art Live, showcasing the work of local artists of all kinds, from photography to sculpture. The event has been rescheduled at 7 p.m. Sept. 6 in the Fellowship Hall.

Featured artists will be guitarist Dave Abraham and “Dr. Jazz,” Janine Normand, on piano.

Seaside Sunset Serenade Series

Free concert with John Calongne Trio will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Seaside Amphitheater.

 

American Gospel Concerts

American Gospel Ministries presents a free concert featuring The Ball Brothers at 6 p.m. Sept. 6 at First Baptist Church, 622 Bayshore Drive in Niceville. A love offering will be taken.

Sunday 9/7

 

Howl at the Moon

Howl at the Moon starts every Sunday night with no cover charge from 7 to 8 p.m. for anyone 21 and up (except for some holidays and Special events) We are 18 to enter, 21 to drink.

Dueling Piano Show begins at 8 p.m. followed by Comedy Show at 9 p.m. with comedians D. S. and Mark Evans Sept. 7.

 

Classic Car Display

Playground Antique and Classic Car Club will host a car display at Benton House on Mar Walt Drive 2-4 p.m. Sunday in honor of Grandparents Day. The club will have free ride-alongs. Car owners wanting to display their cars or give ride-alongs can call Caren Davis at 699-2382 or Jim Davis at 699-2491.

 

Art exhibit: Pastel Society of North Florida

The Pastel Society of North Florida 10th biennial National Exhibition Art Exhibit will be held from Sept. 7 to Oct. 9 in the McIlroy and Holzhauer Galleries at Mattie Kelly Fine & Performing Arts Center at Northwest Florida State College in Niceville. Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Thursday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays.

 

Art on the Harbor

Enjoy art along the Destin Harbor at HarborWalk Village. Every Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. featuring 12 local artists, ArtStop tent with kid’s activities sponsored by Mattie Kelly Arts Foundation, and market vendors with flowers, plants, specialty foods and produce. Transcendence Institute

Starlight Film Series

Beyond the Grape

IMAX

An IMAX® fan favorite, “Everest,” returns to the National Naval Aviation Museum for a limited showing at 1 p.m. daily through Sept. 30. The museum offers discounted IMAX® tickets to all active and reserve military in uniform. Tickets will be discounted to $4.75 from the regular military price of $7.50. Individual tickets can be purchased for $8, and tickets for seniors, foundation members and kids 5-12 are $7.50. Art Explorations series

Artel Gallery will host “Pyramid Presents” at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 9 as part of the Art Explorations series.

Bands on the Beach

The popular Beatles tribute band, Not Quite Fab, returns to rock Bands on the Beach 7–9 p.m. Sept. 9 for an evening of music and memories. The Destin band dons identical brand instruments, mop top wigs, suits and even Liverpool accents. Not Quite Fab features Jim DeStafney as George Harrison, Glenn Vignolo as John Lennon, Dickie Williams as Paul McCartney and Jeff Fitzpatrick as Ringo Starr. Spectators are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to the Gulfside Pavilion. No pets are allowed and glass is prohibited. Go to visitpensacolabeach.com. Red, White and Blue Celebration

Thursday Evenings in the Park

Emerging Leaders of the Navarre Beach Area Chamber of Commerce will host a special Evening in the Park 6-8 p.m. Sept. 11 on the Navarre Park stage to benefit Emerald Coast Honor Flight. The event, Karaoke Wars, will be open for public participation and will feature surprise community “celebrities.” The fundraising takes place when audience members make specific song requests along with donations. Antique Car Show

The Antique Car Show will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 12 at Destin Commons. More than 25 restored vintage autos, including Model As, Model Ts and more, will be on display.

 

The Emerald Coast Business Expo

A Red, White and Blue, Patriotic Tribute to America will take place at the Northwest Florida Fairgrounds on Sept. 13. This event will feature a home show section, a health care section, a job fair section, and a general business selling section. Admission is free. “The Freedom Banner” will be available for visitors to sign in support of the troops. To sign up for a booth space now, call Wes Fell at 837-2807. Call to artists: Destin Festival of the Arts

The Mattie Kelly Arts Foundation will present the 13th annual Destin Festival of the Arts on Oct. 25 and 26 at Henderson Beach State Park featuring over 100 premie artists from the United States.

Applications are now being accepted for the Collaborative Exhibit which features community adults to display or sell up to three pieces of their art shared by participating artists. Artwork should be of an artistic caliber associated with a juried fine art show. Judges will award cash prizes to artists in four categories.

The competition is open to the first 20 applicants and the entry fee is $35. Deadline is Sept. 12.

Wine Tasting

Raise a glass to summer with hand-selected vintages showcased by Sandestin Wine World as part of the shop’s weekly Wine Tasting at 5 p.m. every Friday. Cost is $10/person. Call 622-0802.

Southern Breeze Wine + Culinary Festival

Compass Marketing Inc. welcomes community volunteers to help with the fifth annual Southern Breeze Wine + Culinary Festival at Gulf Place Amphitheater Sept. 13 and 14. Volunteers are needed for Saturday’s Grand Wine Tasting and Sunday’s Walkabout Brunch to perform a variety of roles. In exchange for their help, volunteers will be given complimentary tickets to the opposite day’s events.
