Anthony Peebles wins first Beach Idol at Gulf Place

Santa Rosa Beach – Anthony Peebles walked away $1,000 richer on Saturday June 13th as Gulf Place held its first annual Beach Idol competition. Singing “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen Peebles won the prize.

A total of 19 contestants rounded out the field performing songs from all different genre’s of music.  But it was a difference of four points that would determine the winner on Saturday.

“We had a pretty good turn out with it being the first year,” said Dwight Ward, Gulf Place artist. “The great thing about Beach Idol was there was a lot of talented people that performed that nobody knew was out there until that day and we helped two charities in  our community.”

Second place, a $500 prize, was awarded to Kelsey Johnson from Tallahassee, Fl. Johnson performed all of her own original material accompanying herself on a guitar. Helen Vizard, better known as “Redd”, walked away with a $250 third place prize.
