CRESTVIEW — Lawmen say a woman who tried to run a merchandise-return scam at a local discount store also faces drug charges after marijuana and Xanax were found in her purse.
The incident occurred at the Walmart Supercenter on South Ferdon Boulevard. According to a Crestview Police Department arrest re-port, 21-year-old Fermecha Lakayla Williams of Mary Esther arrived at the Customer Service desk with a set of pots and pans and a set of bed sheets she wanted to return. The return was denied because she lacked the proper ID.
Later, she came back to the desk trying to return a comforter, which was also denied. At that point she tried to leave the store with the unreturned items in a shopping cart but was stopped by an asset protection employee.
She later told officers she tried to return the items because she didn’t have money to pay for work being done to her car in the service center.
When officers searched her purse they found a plastic bag containing a green, leafy substance, a partially smoked marijuana cigarette and nine Xanax pills.
An acquaintance of Williams later told officers he put the drugs in her purse, but officers felt she had knowledge of their presence there.
She was charged with drug possession, marijuana possession and petty theft less than $300.
Her court date is Aug. 3.
