CRESTVIEW — A man was arrested on a drug charge after he was spotted leaving the scene of a shots fired report, lawmen say.

The man, 34-year-old Calvin Wilks Jr. of Crestview, was stopped after Crestview police officers received a second report of shots fired at a Martin Luther King Boulevard residence and an officer spotted a white Ford leaving the scene that matched the description of a vehicle reported in the first call.

When an officer stopped the Ford he spotted a Crown Royal bag on the roof. Wilks denied the bag was his.

Inside the bag, the officer found a digital scale and a metal container. Inside the container were two bags of crack and a bag of powdered cocaine.

The officer noticed the vehicle was covered with condensation, as was the bag. The spot under the bag was dry. Another police officer said nobody had approached the vehicle closely enough to put the bag on the roof. Therefore, the officer determined the bag belonged to Wilks.

Wilks’ driver license had been suspended and records indicated he was a habitual offender.

He was charged with felony driving on a suspended license, and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.

His court date is Aug. 3.
