The inaugural Destin Charity Cornhole Tournament, held Oct. 16 at Destin Commons, was a popular sporting event attracting 28 competing teams for a $500 cash prize and trophies.

Proceeds of more than $4,000 and a silent auction of five cornhole board sets custom painted by area artists benefited the Emerald Coast Children’s Advocacy Centers (ECCAC) in Okaloosa and Walton Counties. Participants and spectators also enjoyed visiting the Beer Garden sponsored by World of Beer, complete with free bottomless craft beer, Bloody Mary’s, mimosas and snacks.

“We were so pleased with the success of the first year for the Destin Charity Cornhole Tournament,” said Julie Hurst, CEO of both ECCAC facilities. “And, most important, the monies raised will benefit our kids who are dealing with abusive situations in their young lives. We’re looking forward to the second tournament next year."

Taking 1st place and $500 were Katie Beason and Jeremy Hiatt on the I’d Hit That team from Shalimar; 2nd place was Adam Gilbert and Thomas Thielman on the Over The Top team; and 3rd place went to James Dufour and Steve Preble on the Spartans team from Crestview.

The Cumulus radio stations Z96, 99Rock, Coast 93.3, NASH FM 105.5 and NewsTalk 1260 co-hosted the event with Destin Commons, along with the support of major sponsor MedSpa of Destin and Sandestin.
