DESTIN — After taking a line drive to his face, Joe Feltner, a pitcher for the coed softball team Clemenza’s Uptown, was scheduled for surgery Friday.

Feltner went to the ground immediately Wednesday evening after he was hit by a softball in the second inning of a game at Morgan Sports Center in Destin.

Feltner, who was conscious and alert, was taken to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center by emergency crews from the South Walton Fire District.

After a visit to an ear, nose and throat specialist Thursday, it was determined he has four small fractures to his jaw and two larger fractures — one in the cheek and one near his eye. He was scheduled for surgery Friday morning, Feltner told The Log.

He said his teeth were all intact but had a little nerve damage.

“Just a lot of pain,” he said.

Feltner thanked the softball community for their prayers.
