CRESTVIEW — A man has been arrested after he allegedly shot his girlfriend's brother Tuesday morning.

Tyshaun Tarver, 37, allegedly shot 32-year-old Charles Booker in the left leg after a fight outside a home at 2358 Susan Drive, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies were called to scene about 10:45 a.m. after witnesses had taken Booker to North Okaloosa Medical Center in Crestview.

When interviewed there, he told deputies he had been living with his sister and Tarver off and on at the home. Booker said he and Tarver were arguing inside the house when Tarver threatened him with a pistol, according to Tarver's arrest report. Booker said he knocked the pistol from Tarver's hand and then gathered his belongings, went outside and got in his sister's BMW sport utility vehicle.

Booker said Tarver came outside and pointed a rifle at him, the Sheriff's Office reported. They began to fight, and Booker said he defended himself with a mailbox post he pulled from the ground as Tarver allegedly swung the rifle at him like a baseball bat.

Booker said Tarver then went back inside the home, came out with a handgun and shot him, according to the Sheriff's Office.

When questioned by deputies, Tarver said Booker shot himself. However, deputies found evidence on Tarver's clothes that he had fired a gun.

He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
