A Chipotle representative said the company has notified card networks, which notifies issuing banks, which in turn notifies customers.

DESTIN — Chipotle Mexican Grill in Destin Commons has been flagged as one of its locations that was hacked by a nationwide breach in its credit and debit card payment system.

According to a company statement released Wednesday, the recently completed investigation revealed that information from credit and debit cards used at the Destin location from March 26 to April 18 may have been stolen by malware.

The company first reported on April 25 that it detected unauthorized activity on the network that supports its payment system in restaurants, but believed it had stopped the activity. It said its investigation is focused on restaurant transactions between March 24 and April 18 of this year. Some of the date ranges of the hack varied between restaurants.

A Chipotle representative said the company has notified card networks, which notifies issuing banks, which in turn notifies customers.

According to the Chipotle website (chipotle.com/security#security), those who used either credit or debit cards for payment at the Destin location at 4281 Legendary Drive during that the window should "review their payment card statements for any unauthorized activity. You should immediately report any unauthorized charges to your card issuer because payment card rules generally provide that cardholders are not responsible for unauthorized charges reported in a timely manner. The phone number to call is usually on the back of your payment card."

Customers who may have been affected may also call Chipotle customer service at 888-738-0534 from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Panama City Beach location, at 100 Pier Park Drive, Suite 100, is also being investigated for a possible breach between March 27 and April 18, the company said.

Chipotle Mexican Grill said South Florida was hit especially hard — where 33 locations may have had their credit card information stolen.
