Fourth of July weekend did not disappoint for locals and tourist.

The beach, major destination attractions and rental agencies were at full capacity during the holiday weekend.

“The weather was perfect and the water was crystal clear, that made our job easier,” said Joe D’Agostino, Destin’s beach safety chief. “It was a safe (weekend) on the beach.”

D’Agostino said about 67,700 visitors went out to the beach over the weekend leading up to July 4. The East Pass also got about 8,500 people looking to catch some rays, he added.

“We had 12 lifeguards looking out for over 15,000 people a day,” he said. “This year was probably one of the biggest Fourths of July by far,”

HarborWalk Village Marketing Director Samantha Barrett said the docks were completely full with people celebrating and waiting for the fireworks.

“I believe we had the most people visit in one night ever,” she said. “Over 6,000 people celebrated the Fourth of July with us.”

Barrett said restaurants and vendors in HarborWalk Village got a lot of traffic and were very happy. The Emerald Grande was also at full capacity during the holiday weekend.

“People just enjoyed our fireworks and patriotic kid activities,” she said.

Newman-Daily Resort Properties’ Director of Marketing Tracy Louthain said all of the company’s vacation rentals were booked.

“Fourth of July has always been the busiest week of the year for us,” she said.

Louthain recommends customers to book their vacation rentals in advance and not wait to the last minute because most rental properties will not be available, especially during a holiday weekend.

“People come to Destin to reconnect with family and just enjoy the destination,” she said
