DESTIN — A man who was involved in a motor vehicle accident but drove away found himself arrested after the victim followed and confronted him.

The suspect, a 40-year-old Destin man, responded to the confrontation by hitting the victim’s vehicle with a club, causing about $1,500 in damage.

There was additional damage caused by the accident, the victim told Walton County Sheriff’s Office deputies. The accident happened in Walton County, but the victim followed the suspect to the Home Depot parking lot in Destin.

After being read his rights, the suspect admitted to throwing an object at the other man’s truck. He said he couldn’t remember what it was but it “wasn’t that heavy,” the report said.

He said he was angry and defensive about being followed.

The victim’s car had several large dents and a shattered driver’s side mirror.

The suspect was charged with felony criminal mischief.
