Code Club is back and better than ever.

This year's Code Club will be divided into two sections: web design and game design. The web design club will meet on Tuesdays and will use HTML and CSS to plan and design their very own websites. The game design club will meet on Fridays and will use Scratch and Python to create action-packed video games and animations.

The fall club meetings will run weekly from September through December. All club meetings will be held from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in the Destin Library PC Lab.

Participation in each club is limited to 18 students (two per desktop computer station) in grades 5-8. Interested students are welcome to register for both the web design (Tuesday) and game design (Friday) clubs if they so choose. Registration is required to participate in this program.

New for 2017: Coding classes for elementary school students.

Students in grades 1-4 are invited to spend an hour learning to think like programmers at the Destin Library. This hour-long class will teach them the basics of procedural thinking, a vital foundational skill for all aspiring programmers. Each class features a self-contained curriculum, and all four will cover the same basic ideas and concepts.

The four planned Codeamentary Classes are:

Sept. 11: Wayfinding with Moana

Oct. 9: Code a Galaxy with BB-8

Nov. 13: Code with Elsa and Ana

Dec. 11: Code Your Own Sports

All classes will be held at 3:30 p.m. in the Destin Library computer lab. Participation in each Codeamentary class is limited to nine students (one per desktop computer station). Students who have not yet participated in a Codeamentary class will take priority over those who have attended previously.

Registration for each class will open approximately one month prior to the class date, and will close the Friday before the class date. Registration through the library is required to participate.
