Artist Taylor Shaw recently completed Destin Commons’ eighth mural with their cultural art initiative comprised of invited artists creating their original mural art on walls throughout the outdoor lifestyle center. Shaw’s colorful mural, “Greetings from Destin, FLA,” is located on the side street wall by Abercrombie & Fitch, across from Build-A-Bear.

A native of Destin, Shaw attended elementary and middle school in Destin and high school in Fort Walton Beach. Beginning at age 14 as a dishwasher at Indian Bayou Country Club in Destin, Shaw, now 32, eventually moved to Austin, Texas, with his own restaurant business. He sold it three years ago and relocated to Athens, Georgia, to continue his education at the University of Georgia. With an undergraduate degree in painting from Mississippi State, he is currently working on his masters of fine arts in Sculpture at UGA.

While deep in his studies at the university, Shaw also takes on commission art work in woodworking, metal fabrication and wood sculptures. With an official artwork signature of Tay-Tay, further information on the artist can be found on Instagram, @lazerchef, or www.TayTay.studio.

“It has been so interesting to see the murals reflect each artist’s own originality and artistic style,” said Heather Ruiz, director of marketing at Destin Commons who coordinated the project. “We invite our shoppers to check out Taylor Shaw’s newest addition to our murals and to take photos with their favorite mural in the background and post them to our Destin Commons’ Facebook, Twitter or Instagram pages.”
