DESTIN — A 19-year-old man is "lucky to be alive," according to authorities, after he was shot in the head Monday night in Destin.

According to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting took place on Airport Road near Twin Lakes Drive in Destin around 11 p.m. Monday. Deputies say someone in a vehicle fired one round into the right rear window of a 2005 white Acura, then fled the area.

A 19-year-old passenger in the Acura’s front seat was struck in the head. They parked at the Destin Walmart and the victim called for help. He was then taken to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center where the bullet was removed from his scalp. His injury is not life-threatening.

Investigators do not believe the shooting was a random act, and the investigation is continuing.
