Destin Pee Wee cheerleaders are getting ready to cheer on the Destin Dolphin Pee Wee team by practicing at the Destin Community Center every Wednesday.

This year, 22 girls signed up and are ready to take on the task to get the crowds excited for every Pee Wee football game.

“This is for little girls that aren’t yet in middle school, but still want to become cheerleaders,” said Beatriz Miller, the community center’s recreation program coordinator.

Willie Rice said his daughter, Alexis, wanted to join because she loves to cheer and do gymnastics.

“It's also good for her to interact and have fun with other kids her own age,” he said. “She will learn how to be part of an organized group.”

The Pee Wee cheerleaders will get their first chance to cheer on Sept. 2 at Fort Walton Beach High School.
