Inside the annual Destin Charity Wine Auction tent, one can expect to find an overabundance of laughter, energy and of course, fine wine.
Patrons pack the tent year after year to bid high and bid often for the common goal of raising money to help children in need in Northwest Florida. The 2017 auction, hosted April 29 in Grand Boulevard, was no exception.
One set of anonymous bidders took their generosity a step further by donating a custom furniture auction lot that they won at the 12th annual Destin Charity Wine Auction provided by Pensacola-based company Armored Frog back to one of DCWAF’s benefiting charities.
Children in Crisis Inc. provides homes for abused, neglected and abandoned children within the community. Their Children’s Neighborhood provides an emergency shelter for young children, and the group foster homes help with the severe shortage of foster homes in our community. Until now, Children in Crisis’ emergency shelter has not had a table big enough to sit all 16 kids that are housed in the shelter at any given time, leaving them unable to enjoy a meal together as a group.
"I can't thank them enough for their generous donation of a custom-built Armored Frog dining table for our CIC Neighborhood,” Children in Crisis President and CEO Ken Hair said. “For years we've wished for a large dining room table for our emergency shelter that would seat all 16 of our children and two house parents at the same table. This anonymous donation came through our partnership with the Destin Charity Wine Auction Foundation’s annual auction. Since 2008, we've given a safe, loving home to over 750 at-risk children while keeping all brother/sister siblings together as a family. Hundreds more will benefit from this wonderful donation far into the future."
The table was delivered by Armored Frog staff members Aug. 25 and includes drawers on all sides that allow each child to have his or her own private space.
