Dozens of Okaloosa County residents banded together recently to fill the Destin Harvest truck with supplies for Texas flood victims. After loading up supplies on Sept. 2, the truck left from Destin with four more stops to collect supplies. Volunteer drivers Frank Day and Lewis Jennings made stops in Navarre, Pensacola, Loxley and Mobile on their way to Conroe, Texas, where the volunteers met Pastor Melvin Steward and his wife April of North Place Church in Conroe.
"There is an outpouring of love and support/donations and teamwork for the Texas Hurricane Relief trip," Day said.
Organized through Democratic social media, many donated supplies and funds. All Okaloosa Democratic groups made large donations to the effort, including the Democratic Women's Club of Okaloosa, the Okaloosa Black Caucus, and the Democratic Executive Committee.
