Boy Scout Troop 525 of DeFuniak Springs hosted the Gulf Coast Council’s annual Fall Camporee with a boot camp theme Sept. 15-17. All boys from Troop 525 dressed in military-themed camouflage and boots while directing all events.

“I wouldn’t trade anything for the boys I have in Troop 525,” said Scoutmaster James Odom.

From planning the events to putting together the awards, the local scouts worked together making it an unforgettable experience for Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts Arrow of Light dens, and Venturing Crews from Walton and Okaloosa counties. Events included boat racing, rifle shooting, knot tying, backpacking, first aid, shelter building, orienteering course and an obstacle course.

While all troops enjoyed the competition and team building that took place throughout the weekend, Troop 157 out of Niceville garnered enough points for the Top Troop Award at the end of the night. Despite the rain pushing the young people inside for the closing ceremonies, singing, chanting, and laughter filled the night. Troop 525’s first time hosting the event in many years was a huge success.
