DESTIN — A man who was repeatedly told he was unwelcome at a property was arrested after going to the home in the dead of the night and unscrewing a doorknob attempting to gain entry.
According to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office report, the 30-year-old man was caught by a deputy with a “door knob assembly” in his hand on the night of Oct. 26. He had removed the knob because, despite the locks having been changed, he believed he had every right to be in the residence.
The home had apparently belonged to his deceased mother, who the suspect said had even told him before she died not to come back to the house. His mother’s heir and executor of her will also told him not to come to the house.
The man was charged with loitering or prowling, a misdemeanor.
