Turnberry Associates have made no progress in developing a promised 150-room nationally branded select service hotel near the Destin Commons, according to staff.
In 2015, Turnberry Associates announced plans to build the hotel, which will be built on a plot of land on Danny Wuerffel Way, featuring 5,000 square feet of space for corporate meetings and social functions.
Two years later, according to Destin Commons Director of Marketing Heather Ruiz, the company is still searching for the right hotel brand to be a partner vendor.
"We haven't gotten too much farther on any other additional developments," Ruiz said. "At this point, it's our decision on when we want to proceed. It's not finding interest, there is plenty of interest. We want to make sure that whatever we do is the right fit for the area."
Ruiz said Turnberry Associates has been focusing its attention on other projects across the country. She said once the focus is brought back to the Destin Commons hotel, they will "make it happen."
Ruiz said with the ever increasing amount of tourism in the area, the hotel will be a great amenity to Destin Commons.
"We're finding more and more there is a need for hotel space," Ruiz said. "The accommodations do fill up. It'll be a great central location for anyone conducting business in the area."
