Reader says: We are headed into quick deterioration and more and more of the residents who remember how Destin was are leaving.
It’s getting more and more difficult to live in Destin. When we moved from Houston eight years ago, we were attracted by the fun places we could go to enjoy live music, fun restaurants and great beaches.
Along the way we have lost the quiet of the beach to air and water traffic, thanks to helicopters and personal watercraft. We now pay to park if we want to enjoy a little tourist fun at HarborWalk, and U.S. Highway 98 is a lesson in defensive driving. We pay over $200 per month in bridge tolls for our kids to go to high school.
The polish is definitely wearing off and the excitement of living in Destin is growing thin. We all dreaded becoming another Panama City Beach with too many T-shirt shops and lacking the parking/access to public beaches for the residents. We are headed into quick deterioration and more and more of the residents who remember how Destin was are leaving.
