A controlled burn in Blackwater Forest is believed to be responsible for smokey conditions being reported through the county.
A strong smell of smoke and haze hung over downtown Fort Walton Beach late Tuesday afternoon. At Blackwater River State Park in the north end of the county, an individual who answered the phone said it was smokey there too.
Officials at Blackwater Forest confirmed than an 1,800-acre controlled burn had been set Tuesday afternoon.
She said the winds must have shifted for folks in the south end of the county to be experiencing smoke.
