Enhancing The Word — Beginning Art Class for students aged 14 and up will take students through a new technique of Bible journaling using illustrations.
This new technique features watercolor wax art tools that are utilized to create vivid, beautiful images directly on the pages while still allowing the artist to view the Word beneath.
Taught by Destin School of the Arts' Artist In Residence Kimberly Heartsong, the eight-week course will meet from Jan. 22 to March 12 in Building A at Destin United Methodist Church, 200 Beach Drive.
Heartsong is an artist formally trained at Baum School of Arts in Pennsylvania, with a certificate in Art as Therapy earned at Cape Fear Medical Center in North Carolina through an apprentice program. She has won recognition locally at Artel Gallery in Pensacola in 2017 and ADSO Gallery in Fort Walton Beach in 2016, and had a solo art show at the Destin Library in September 2017. She had artwork displayed in the National Veterans Art Museum in Chicago and is one of 20 veterans in the Combat Paper Art Project called Paper Dolls that was in the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 2014 and the Library of Congress Rare Art Book Collection in Washington D.C. in 2015.
The cost for the full course is $100, and includes the art supplies. Each student will be responsible for the purchase of their own vellum paper Bible and new students to Destin School of the Arts will be charged a one time $25 registration fee.
Space is limited for this class. For more information or to reserve a spot, contact Destin School of the Arts Director Keri Klaus at firstname.lastname@example.org or call the office at 850-837-2021, ext 236.
