Overnight low hit 19 degrees, but forecast calls for gradual warming over next few days
Area residents bundled up against the cold and some yards turned into sparking ice sculptures as overnight tempertures dipped to 19 degrees early Thursday.
The National Weather Service in Mobile, Alabama, issued a hard freeze warning for an area including Escambia, Santa Rosa and Okaloosa counties through Friday mornng. A hard freeze occurs when temperatures fall near or below 20 degrees. At those temperatures, exposed pipes can burst, so ensure they are properly insulated.
Friday's weather calls for continued sunshine and slight warming. Highs are forecast for 53 degrees and overnight lows of 35.
The Florida Panhandle will get a little bit of a reprieve over the next few days as temperatures continue to warm through the weekend.
Rain is forecast for Monday, with highs around 60 degrees and lows in the 40s through the rest of the week.
