Pensacola man killed after he was hit by a commercial vehicle.
DESTIN — A pedestrian was killed early Thursday after being hit by a commercial vehicle near the Emerald Grande.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call at 3:48 a.m. about an unresponsive man on U.S. Highway 98 in Destin, according to OCSO spokeswoman Michele Nicholson.
When deputies arrived, they found 41-year-old Alfred Trimble Jr. of Pensacola lying in the road and moved him to the sidewalk. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Okaloosa County EMS. A traffic homicide unit was called in to investigate.
According to a press release from the Sheriff's Office, Trimble was walking across U.S. 98 at the intersection with Stahlman Avenue when he was hit by a commercial vehicle. The motorist stopped after the crash, Nicholson said.
U.S. 98 was closed for several hours, but all lanes had been reopened as of 9 a.m.
The Sheriff's Office was still investigating the incident Thursday afternoon.
