Dog-Harmony will host two upcoming workshops focused on children and their pets and the issue of cruelty and neglect at the Destin Library on Tuesday, Feb. 27. Both workshops are free and open to the public. Donating to Dog-Harmony, a Florida nonprofit organization dedicated to keeping dogs out of shelters, is encouraged.

The Children’s Humane Education Workshop at 4:30 p.m. will feature Dog-Harmony founder Nancy Brown, CPDT-KA, who will provide an informational and fun course for children on the keys to pet care and communication between people and animals. According to Brown, the majority of dog bites come from a dog known to the person, so this course teaches how to read signs and avoid aggressive, angry or distressed dogs. Children participating in the program will receive a free coloring book.

At 5:30 p.m., an information workshop, Cruelty or Neglect? Responsible Pet Ownership, will feature national animal cruelty investigator John A. Porche, who will present and discuss what is considered cruelty and neglect as well as how these factors play into existing Florida laws.
