We, as conservative Destin homeowners for the past 29 years, are truly trying to get our thoughts right about this coming election.

First off, this is one of those ugly campaigns paid for by a crew of very well-to-do local and not so local groups. Peter Bos and his gang promote themselves as the "conservatives." That means everyone else who does not agree with them is not a "conservative." Harsh stuff for NW Florida dwellers such as many like myself.

They paint Mrs. Ramswell as a basic criminal, the current mayor as a liberal and Councilman Braden as some sort of "ner do well" because "they" oppose what "they" want to do as far as development goes. I do not know any of the people running for office. What I do know is that the people running the high-priced smear campaign are from somewhere down in the Venice area. Paid for by Bos and his crew. Basically a gunslinger outfit that poses to speak for all of us conservatives. They do not speak for me.

Look at the recent campaign mailers sent out for two of the candidates. Right up in the corner it is printed, Citizens for Destin, Venice FL, or something like that. Probably very nice people with great backgrounds as prior military and such. Something I highly support with a daughter and son-in-law stationed in England. He with three tours over in the sands and she with prior military experience prior to becoming a wife and mother. How could I not respect the military people when most of my friends are all prior and myself a Vietnam veteran? As well as a Second Amendment guy with a concealed carry permit. I mean, I have conservative written all over me.

I just do not like the fact that they are being "run" by the heavy hitters like Bos and his crew.

Let's look at the candidate for mayor. A good guy, local fisherman and all that. I greatly respect that as I love to fish and support the Coastal Conservation Association and the rest, etc. What is left out of the sales pitch is that he also owns four large restaurants in the Destin area to include Brotulas and Cuvee Bistro. Why does that not come out in the TV ads? I mean, what possible reason do they leave that good stuff out?

If our current mayor is for stopping the development of another monstrosity like the "Evil Towers" as some call it there along the East Pass, I am all for it. Build another one across the highway by McGuire's and they could run a bridge across from the two. It could look like something like the twin towers of London Bridge.

To say the mayor and the current staff are responsible for the traffic jams we have is just stupid. Development has overwhelmed the roads and streets in our town. Our sewage treatment plant is overwhelmed. If you do not notice the odor over in that area during the summer, well you've just gotten used to it.

Residents of Destin, do not let a bunch of greedy locals, out of town developers and paid propagandists, supposedly speaking on your behalf, steer you into making a very bad choice next week at the polls. Don't fall for it.
