DESTIN — A 31-year-old man who was angry about his friend getting stabbed in a local bar tried to even the score by attacking the suspect while he was being detained.

Roy Joseph Jinks of Shalimar was charged with aggravated battery causing great bodily harm for punching the suspect in the face so hard he broke the socket holding his eye in place.

Restaurant staff told the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office deputy who responded that the suspect was being held with his hands behind his back when Jinks punched him in the face several times, the report said.

The injured man had visible cuts to his upper left cheek and both eyes were swollen, red and bleeding, according to Jinks’ arrest report.

After being read his rights, Jinks said that he was angry at the victim for injuring his friend and punched him in the face twice.
