With just a few weeks left in the school year, Food For Thought Outreach has announced its End of the School Year fundraiser to “Sponsor a School” for $1,000 per school. During the month of April, Food For Thought has set a goal to raise $31,000 to cover all of the 31 schools in their program.

Interested donors will have the option to donate to a local school of their choice in the program from Okaloosa or Walton county whether the school is the one their children attend, their alma mater, or a local school that they may know is in need.

“We are serving over 2,900 students each week of the school year and nearly 600 families over each holiday break,” said Tiffanie Nelson, founder/executive director of Food For Thought Outreach. “We average about 100 students per school so sponsoring a school for $1,000 will help feed each child for the last few weeks of the school year. These last weeks are crucial for local kids as summer can be the hungriest time of the year and we want to help kids the best we can.”

In the last few years, the organization has taken on even more students than originally planned. Last year, the organization was serving 1,700 students a week after only planning for 1,500, then at the start of the 2017-2018 school year the nonprofit expected to grow to 2,500 students. That number just continued to grow to 2,900 students as of last month and added their 31st school to the program.

“We are immensely grateful for the support of this community in helping grow this organization and couldn’t do what we do without the community’s support,” said Nelson.
