In another successful year of performances and competition, the Niceville High School choruses took part in the Florida Vocal Association’s North State Music Performance Assessment.

The five choruses Comprising the NHS program, directed by Michael Dye, earned the highest ratings of superior by the adjudicators.

The Select Women, Niceville Singers and Opus One received the Choir of Distinction status.

Those choirs, along with the men’s chorus, Camerata, and the freshman/sophomore women’s chorus, Bel Canto, earned places at the state MPA in March.

At that level, the five choirs earned superior ratings. In addition, Opus One, Singers and Select Women earned Sight Reading with Distinction, a challenging designation to receive.

To celebrate the accomplishments, the program has scheduled its awards and concert for 6 p.m. tonight Rocky Bayou Baptist Church. Tickets may be purchased at the door.

The Rocky Bayou Christian Academy Junior Classical League and Chess Club combined forces to assist the Northwest Florida Heritage Museum and the Valparaiso Garden Club by sprucing up the Paradise Gardens.

JCL officer Alicyn Grete and club members Hannah Lynch, Madison Mallick, Josh Pruitt, Gideon Riches, and Caroline Seeling were joined by Chess Club member Holt Agnew in weeding walkways, spreading pine straw, planting a bed of zinnias and trimming vines and shrubs.

The students also observed why the garden club created Paradise Gardens as a pollinator garden, where monarch butterfly caterpillars feasted on newly planted milkweed.
