Churches usually hold the week-long Vacation Bible Schools during the summer, though the length may vary and they are sometimes held during other times of the year. Most churches use themed curriculum programs from their denominations or independent publishing houses. Here are some of the churches "themes" to be presented this year.

Be “Rescued by Jesus” during Destin United Methodist Church’s first ever nighttime Vacation Bible School, Shipwrecked, from 5:30-8 p.m. June 3-7. A light supper each evening at 5:30 will be followed by opening service at 6 p.m. Parents are also encouraged to attend with their children and participate.

Venture onto an uncharted island where kids survive and thrive on God’s word and are anchored in the truth that Jesus carries them through life's storms. Bible Stories will connect each day to the Bible Point and Bible Verse, into Imagination Station where they will dive into experiments that also connect to each days Bible Point, plus answer questions that will help them get to know each other better.

Kids travel through field-tested rotations that reinforce relevant Bible Points and immerse them in new adventures. A day at Shipwrecked includes Bible Discovery, KidVid Cinema, Imagination Station, Tropical Treats, Ship Rec Games and more.

High-energy Ship Rec Games include Landlubber Lacrosse or Silly Lily Lagoon. All the crews come together to eat snacks that connect with the day's Bible verse during Tropical Treats time and watch films about real kids living out their faith during KidVid Cinema.

One of the best parts of Shipwrecked VBS is the award-winning music. Kids will want to listen to fun songs, like "Soon and Very Soon," "A Million Reasons," "Eye of the Storm," "Rescue Me," "I Am" and more, over and over again.

If you would like to volunteer, please contact Kim Parker at kparker@destinumc.org. Registration cost is $15 and includes a T-shirt. Register at www.myvbs.org/destinumc/.

Discover Jesus from eternity past to eternity future during Time Lab Vacation Bible School from 6-8:30 p.m. June 11-June 15 at Destiny Worship Center in Miramar Beach, a VBS for students entering kindergarten through sixth grade in September.

Travel through time and meet the most important man ever, a man who was not just a man, but also God — One who turned the world upside down and existed outside of time.

Students will encounter God's presence, embrace God's word, and experience VBS through worship, games, Bible stories, drama and crafts. There will be snacks and free T-shirts.
