DESTIN —The suspect in this morning's disturbance at Home2 suites in Destin is in custody, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office.

Michele Nicholson, spokeswoman for the Sheriff's Office, said the man was apprehended by police and transported to the jail. She said he is being charged with aggravated assault and possibly other charges, but she was not sure at the time of the call. More information will become available soon, she said.

Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office deputies are on scene at the Home2 Suites in Destin after receiving reports of a man yelling and possibly waving a firearm.

Michele Nicholson, spokeswoman for the Sheriff's Office, said the man causing the disturbance has locked himself inside a room on the second floor of the hotel. The second floor has been evacuated.

Nicholson said the Sheriff's Office has cordoned off Home2 Suites and is asking people to avoid the area.

The disturbance began at 5:30 a.m., according to Nicholson. No injuries have been reported.
