DESTIN — A Destin man was arrested for false imprisonment after not allowing his girlfriend to leave following an argument.

At about 7 a.m. May 20, the man and his girlfriend, who reside together and have been dating for two years, were arguing over loyalty issues in their relationship, according to an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office arrest report. Both were accusing one another of cheating.

The argument, which began on the first floor of their apartment, eventually became physical. The victim then told the man she was leaving him and went to the second floor to get her daughter, the report said.

The man followed her upstairs into her daughter’s room. He closed the door and sat in front of it, not allowing them to leave.

The victim was holding her daughter when she asked the man to move from in front of the door four times, the report said. He didn’t, so she put her daughter in the corner of the room and attempted to move him by force.

She kicked the man in the leg in a last attempt to escape, but he didn’t budge. She yelled out for help, and someone called authorities to the apartment building.

Once deputies arrived, they entered the home and found the bedroom door was still closed, the report said. When they announced their presence, the man opened the door. The man told deputies he followed the woman and kept her in the room because he wanted to talk to her.

According to the report, the man was arrested for false imprisonment.
