Want to make connections with new friends, have fun with other seniors and learn new things? The Destin Seniors through Destin Community Center might just be for you. There are monthly events that might be right up your alley.

On Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to noon at Buck Destin Center on Legion Drive, there are games, Mexican Train Dominos, scrabble, etc. Other games offered are tennis, croquet, and horseshoes. Other board and card games are available if there are enough participants.

Thursdays, from 9 a.m. to noon at Buck Destin Center, features special interests, such as crocheting, knitting, art, painting and crafts, with an instructor. These require a minimum to participate. Watch the monthly bulletin for what is offered each month.

The second Friday of each month at 11 a.m. is Bingo at Buck Destin Center. Bring an item with a cost of $5-$10 to participate. There are also one or two big prizes as well as refreshments sponsored by the City Recreation Department.

The third Friday of each month at 11:30 a.m. is an eat out at local restaurants — Dutch Treat. You need to sign up for this event.

The fourth Friday of each month at 11:30 a.m. at the Community Center is a pot luck with program. The sponsor supplies the main dish, we bring sides and dessert is a big cake, provided by the Community Center, to honor all birthdays for the month. The program always has a speaker on senior interests. We’ve had doctors, dentists, and others that go over issues seniors deal with and tips on what can be done to help.

There are also casino trips and cruises just to mention a few fun trips we do. Pat Markey is the senior coordinator and keeps us active and doing fun things together. For more information or to get a monthly calendar of events, call the Destin Community Center at 850-654-5184.
