DESTIN — An employee of a rental company was knocked unconscious late last month after she took one of the company's personal watercraft out for a joyride in the Gulf of Mexico.

The 25-year-old woman was accompanied by three other employees of the rental company in Destin, according to a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission report.

The company was not renting out watercraft that day because of weather conditions ahead of Subtropical Storm Alberto, the report said.

One of the employees said he saw the woman jump a wave and land sideways. Her head struck the hood of the watercraft.

The woman fell into the water and lost consciousness before her companions pulled out, the report said. She regained consciousness and began to cough up water.

Okaloosa County EMS took the woman to Destin ER, where she was evaluated for several hours. She showed no apparent signs of injury, and said only that she was sore and her head hurt, the report said.

FWC issued the woman a warning for careless operation of a vessel.
